The Spartan Shield school newspaper is a nongraded, extracurricular program which does not include class credit. Work done by staff members takes place during non-class time. The staff will meet periodically before and after school and during lunch breaks. Students are assigned projects for each edition and are given deadlines for completion. Student work will be edited and critiqued by the advisor, Mr. Davis. Generally, four newspapers will be published each school year.
By being on the staff, you will have the opportunity of working with others toward the singular goal of publishing a school newspaper. You will have your own writing and other work published with your byline. You will have meaningful material for your portfolio and resume. You will receive training in journalism which will help you improve your writing and other communication skills, and you will learn to meet the challenges of meeting deadlines. These are all skills that will help you in college and in life. You may also have opportunities of receiving college scholarships.
